Moog's DFAM 'Drummer From Another Mother' is a semi-modular analogue drum synthesizer that lets anyone compile impressive drum sounds and rhythms without any prior knowledge or experience whatsoever. The DFAM is easy to use and is equipped with two oscillators (with square and triangle waveforms), a white noise generator and an external audio input. Sounds can be created using the oscillators and the white noise generator. There's also an 8-step analogue sequencer with pitch and velocity controls for programming dynamically rich sounding beats.

This drum synth can easily be used on its own, but it's also equipped with no fewer than 24 mini jack patch bays that make it clear that it has serious connection possibilities on offer too. The DFAM even comes with 5 high-quality Moog modular patch cables and connecting it to other equipment opens up virtually limitless possibilities. Just imagine connecting a second DFAM or a Mother-32! Just used this as part of a demo in Edinburgh. Its basically techno in a box.
Heerlijke analoge machine. Geweldige percussie geluiden kun je hier uit halen. Ik jam er veel mee en zorg dat ik alles opneem. Later knip ik er stukjes uit wat ik gebruik als aanvulling van mijn tracks. Echte Moog kwaliteit en een zeer origineel apparaat.

Het is wellicht niet de meest veelzijdige machine van Moog, maar het klankkarakter en de ritmische mogelijkheden zijn uniek. Voor wie houdt van drums buiten de gebaande paden is hier veel ruimte voor experimentatie!

De DFAM koop je niet om een heel ingewikkelde drumpartij in elkaar te zetten; de DFAM koop je voor de sound en om er lekker mee te experimenteren. Op het oog een simpel apparaat, maar ga ermee aan de slag en je ontdekt elke keer weer wat nieuws. En een heerlijk vol analoog geluid natuurlijk. Enige kennis van klanksynthese is wel nodig en houd er rekening mee dat er geen midi-aansluiting op zit. Synchroniseren (en andere ritme's maken) doe je dus met een cv-gate uit je controller of een ander apparaat. En inderdaad: het is meer dan een drumsynthesizer: met een beetje experimenteren haal je van alles uit dit apparaatje.

Eén van de interessantste zaken die de laatste 5 jaar op de markt gekomen zijn.
Ongelofelijk intuitief en een volledig andere manier om een ritme of beat te maken. 5 sterren voor inspirerende tool!
Deze synth is vet. Zodra je hem hebt aangesloten, gaat de inspiratieknop bij je aan.
De klank vind ik geweldig en is de herkenbare Moog sound. Met name door het welbekende ladderfilter.
De bouw is rubuust en stevig. Ook de knoppen voelen solide aan. Allesbehalve wobbly en je voelt dat het een topproduct is.
Ja, ik ben erg blij met deze aankoop.
De naam Drummer from another mother is natuurlijk leuk bedacht maar doet dit apparaat veel te kort. Krijsen en brommen doet ie net zo makkelijk als alle soorten drumgeluiden in de ruimste zin van het woord produceren.
Met een stemapparaat of een quantizer zijn er net zo goed een harmonisch verantwoorde bas- of melodielijn uit te toveren. Zonder stemapparaat of quantizer gaat staat de DFAM ook garant voor uren pret.
Met de draaiknopjes is een sequence veel makkelijker on the fly te bewerken dan op de moeder zelf.
Het geluid is op en top Moog. Duurdere Moog broers klinken geheid beter, maar voor dit geld, tjonge jonge.
Samen met een Mother 32 ontstaat er een nog breder scala aan mogelijkheden.
Daarna is de stap naar meer (semi)modulaire investeringen snel gezet. Dus bezint eer ge begint ;-)
